ACTING CLASSES

From the theoretical to the practical, and everywhere in between, FAST offers instruction for actors at all levels of skill and experience.


 

SUBTEXTUAL FILM ACTING

Our introductory class for learning to act on film
:


Through a combination of lecture and scene work, students will learn the basic principles of organic feature film acting.  This class is a required pre-requisite for the other FAST classes.

Film acting subtext, its history, evolution, and application to the individual is explained and discussed. Students then perform on camera in coached scene work.

Course length: 8 weeks
Sundays 2-4 p.m.

TECHNIQUE*

Through verbal instruction, exercises, and scene work on scripts, students are given a comprehensive, individualized, and organic acting technique for approaching roles in film, television, and the theatre in a graduate-school style class.

* The Subtextual Film Acting Class is a prerequisite for Technique, except on approval. Please consult your instructor.

STUDIO - Advanced

An ongoing scene study workshop. This invitation-only studio focuses on independent scene selection and rehearsal and continued use of performance techniques learned in earlier classes. Real-time, personal coaching is an integral part of instruction.  Scenes are video-taped so the student has an ongoing record of progress.

SHAKESPEARE*

Learn techniques of performing Shakespeare!  This class will strive to demystify all of Mr. S's high falutin' dialogue so the actor can use the text as opposed to being chewed up by it.  We'll touch on monologues, scene work, and even the odd sonnet so put your fear in your pocket, muster your inner Will (Will..get it?) and join us for a little summer Bard.

Acting for Teens*

This four session class will focus on a course of study/work that will be introducing you to commercials,slating and audition procedures plus cold commercial reading on camera, dealing with rejection and dressing for the audition.  Covering the scope of dialogue/non-dialogue scenes, resumes, headshots and choosing the right agent Patrick shares from decades of work in the film and theatre industry. 

Basic scene approaches to Film/TV - you will do cold scene reading on camera that will be taped and critiqued.  You will have homework that will be memorized scene work and instruction on your objectives and obstacles, listening and reacting. 

Be prepared for an intense yet fun time with Patrick and Marilyn learning and layering your new knowledge and skills and understanding of the art and the techniques of acting.  Catch the passion of players/instructors with scores of years professional experience in film and on stage. 


*Must be 13-18 years old

Audition Bootcamp

Feeling rusty in auditions?  Lost your confidence in call backs?

Need a brush up or maybe you've just begun the "I want to be a star" trek.  In any case, join us for this workshop intensive where you'll do a least ten mock auditions in ten hours.  Complete with feedback and instruction from the producer of over sixty commercials and films, you'll mock try out for commercials, indie films, industrials, even the big budgets.

Exploration of Voice and Movement*

The foundation for the committed actor  This class focuses on ways of allowing authentic speech and movement in rehearsal and performance.  Explore the ways to prepare the body and mind.  Marilyn Carter and Bill Mazzella lead students on exploring these paths.  Classes will be physically active and related to text.  Please bring excitement for exploration, a willingness to work, and dress comfortably.

THE "I HATE AUDITIONING" CLASS*

Class Sessions include:  a comprehensive view and discussions of the business of acting in film, commercial and theatre venues, auditioning national and regional, seven of the classes will be workshop format to improve your skills experientially and all class work will be taped. 

Class goals include:

  • Setting your own goals

  • Understand getting into the casting office

  • The techniques to stand and deliver

  • Ultimately relaxing and enjoying yourself in the process
